Sedona in Fire: On May 20, 2014 the Slide Fire was started just north of Slide Rock in the pristine and spectacular Oak Creek Canyon. The fire threatened to spread up the canyon to Flagstaff. It burned over 21,000 acres and was to become the largest fire ever on the Coconino National Forest. An excellent book by Lisa Schnebly Heidinger, Janeen Trevillyan, and the Sedona Historical Society can be purchased from Amazon.com. This book has been made possible through interviews with Sedona-area pioneer families and long time residents. This book has amazing photographs some of which were taken by one of the first families settling in Sedona, the Schnebly family.
